The Urban Mapping Workshop is being conducted as part of the REIMAGINING TEPPAKULAM initiative that seeks to to reimagine and develop Trichy’s Teppakulam precinct as a vibrant public space.

Who can participate?

This workshop is aimed at architecture students (typically between 3rd and 5th years) as a primer for their urban design studio and at young architecture graduates who have an active interest in urban design.
Yet, anyone with an interest in understanding our public spaces and observing and documenting them is welcome to join.

What can you learn through this workshop?

This workshop serves as an introduction to methods of analyzing, evaluating and recording the urban environment based on field observation. The workshop is structured to cover a variety of urban design mapping exercises pertaining to the design of streets and public spaces, shaping areas at the neighbourhood scale and addressing issues pertaining to an existing urban fabric.

Participants will learn various methods and techniques to document an urban public space, compile, and also represent field data to communicate observations and ideas.

April 3, 4 – Field work
April 5 – Studio

*Since it is a hands-on workshop, the presence for all 3 days is mandatory.

The workshop will be mentored by Ar. Vidhya Mohankumar of Urban Design Collective, in association with Archtrust, Trichy, and the Indian Institute of Architects, Trichy Centre.
